William "Bill" Weiss



Dr. William U. “Bill” Weiss passed away on Sunday 11/5/2023 in Vancouver, WA. He was 85. Bill was born on November 12, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. He obtained his B.A. in 1960 from The Johns Hopkins University and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1969 from the University of Maryland. He enjoyed a 50-year career as a clinical psychologist. Although Bill worked in multiple settings, he worked most of his career as a university faculty member. He was Assistant Professor of Psychology at Lafayette College from 1970 to 1976 and then was a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at University of Evansville from 1976 to 2008, rising to the rank of full Professor.  He was very active in a number of professional organizations in psychology, particularly the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology, the Society for Personality Assessment, and APA. He served as editor of the Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology for several years in the 2000s. Bill retired from the University of Evansville in 2008 and moved to the Pacific Northwest, where he worked part-time in independent practice as a psychologist and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren. His wife, Judith, passed away in 2022. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Peter Weiss and Kristin Weiss, and his daughter and son-in-law, Rachel Stafford and Scott Stafford, and his two grandchildren, Ariella Stafford and Sidney Stafford.
